Born on June 26, 1961, in Conway, South Carolina, to late Frank Mendel Norris, Sr. and Virginia Bishop Norris, Steve Marion Norris was raised in the Hickman’s Crossroads community of Brunswick County, North Carolina on the family tobacco farm. After earning an associate degree in Surveying Technology, he embarked on a distinguished 40-year career as a Professional Land Surveyor, eventually becoming a principal and partner at Norris & Ward Land Surveyors, PA. His journey also led him to become a partner in Crossroads Convenient Storage, LLC.
A lifelong member of Andrew’s Chapel United Methodist Church, he has dedicated many years to teaching adult Sunday school, sharing his wisdom and guidance with his community.
Initiated, passed, and raised as a Master Mason in Shallotte Lodge 727 in 1982, he quickly became a respected figure within the Masonic community. By 1985, he was a Certified Lecturer and began officiating at Masonic funeral services. His leadership journey included serving as District Deputy Grand Lecturer (1986–1991), Master of Shallotte 727 (1989), and District Deputy Grand Master (1991–1994). His passion for the fraternity extended into the York Rite, Scottish Rite and Shriners International.
His dedication to the Shriners is particularly noteworthy. After joining the Sudan Shriners in 1989, he took on various leadership positions, including Charter President of the South Brunswick Islands Shrine Club (1994), Board of Trustees member (2000), and eventually Potentate of Sudan Shriners in 2012. His influence extended regionally, serving as the South Atlantic Shrine Association President (2017) and as a Regional Membership Director for Shriners International, overseeing membership efforts across five states.
Within the Grand Lodge of North Carolina, his commitment to Masonry led to his appointment to the Board of Custodians in 2015, where he was later elected Chairman in 2017. That same year, he was appointed to the Executive Membership Committee for Shriners International and named Chairman of the Grand Lodge Committee on Membership. His leadership trajectory continued as he was elected and installed as Junior Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina in 2017. Progressing through the ranks, he now serves as Deputy Grand Master in 2025.
Beyond his professional and Masonic achievements, he finds his greatest joy in family. He is married to Traci Riggsbee Norris, and together they have three daughters: Kayla Ann, a third-grade teacher; Sarah Elizabeth, a medical informatics technician; and Emily Grace, currently a sophomore at Wofford College.
