Illustrious Brother Walt Wheeler hails from Michigan. He and his wife Vickie have been married for 50 years.   They have 3 sons and 5 grandchildren.

His Masonic journey began in 1970 as a member of Grand Rapids Chapter, Order of DeMolay where he served as Master Councilor in 1973 and District Master Councilor in 1974.  He is a holder of the Representative DeMolay Award, the Degree of Chevalier and a Past Commander of the Great Lakes Court of Chevaliers.  He served on the Jurisdictional Staff of Michigan DeMolay as Director of Honors and was the Personal Representative of the Grand Master of DeMolay in Michigan.  He serves on the Board of Trustees of the DeMolay Foundation of Michigan and is an Active Member of the DeMolay Supreme Council. He is a recipient of the DeMolay Legion of Honor and has been inducted into both the Michigan DeMolay Hall of Fame and the DeMolay International Hall of Fame.

Bro. Walt joined Grand River Lodge No. 34 (now Grand Rapids Lodge No. 34) in 1977 and was its Worshipful Master in 1985. He is an Honorary member of 25 Michigan Lodges.  He also holds Honorary Memberships in the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Michigan and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.  He served the Grand Lodge of Michigan as Most Worshipful Grand Master in 2006-07 and the Grand Treasurer from 2007-2010.  He served as a trustee of the National Masonic Foundation for Children from 2002–2009 serving as Board Secretary for 3 of those years.  He is an Honorary Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey and is a recipient of their Daniel Coxe Medal for outstanding service to the fraternity.  He is also a holder of the Benjamin Franklin Award from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.

He currently serves as a Trustee of the Michigan Prince Hall Community Service Network.

In the York Rite Bro. Walt is a Past High Priest of Grand Rapids Chapter No. 7, Royal Arch Masons and is a member of the Order of High Priesthood. He is a holder of the General Grand Chapters Kirby Award.  He is a Past Commander of DeMolai Commandery No. 5.  He is a recipient of the Grand Encampments Knight Commander of the Temple and the Knight Grand Cross of Honor.  He is a Past Thrice Potent Master of Tyre Council No. 10, Royal and Select Masons and has received the Order of the Silver Trowel.  He is a Past Sovereign Master of Mt. Moriah Council No. 128, Allied Masonic Degrees and is a Knight Commander of the Red Branch of Eri.  He is also a member of West Michigan York Rite Sovereign College No. 10 and is a recipient of the Order of the Purple Cross. He is a Past Puissant Sovereign of St. Vincent’s Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine and has been appointed an Intendant General at Large by the United Grand Imperial Council.  He is a holder of the Knight York Cross of Honor and is a member of Michigan Priory #22.

He is a member of the Furniture City High Twelve Club, as well as Saladin Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He is an honorary member of Moslem Shrine Temple.

He is a member of Noruh Grotto, M.O.V.P.E.R. and a Frater in the Michigan College of the Rosicrucians.

He is a holder of the Order of Rainbow for Girls Grand Cross of Color and Job’s Daughters International Grand Triangle of Honor.

Il. Brother Walt and his wife Vickie are members of Peninsular Chapter No. 65 Order of the Eastern Star.

Bro. Walt joined Scottish Rite in 1980.  He served as Sovereign Prince of Cyrus Council

Princes of Jerusalem in 1994-95 and the Commander-In-Chief of De Witt Clinton Consistory in 2001-02.  He was coroneted a 33º Mason in 1997 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the West Michigan 32° Degree Learning Center for Children, was twice the President of the Board of Trustees of the Valley of Grand Rapids, and is a holder of the Valley’s Thespian Award for distinguished service in the degree work of the Valley.  He was serving as Thrice Potent Master in Moriah Lodge of Perfection when he was elected an Active Member of the Supreme Council in August of 2009. 

On the Supreme Council he served for 9 years on the Children’s Dyslexia Centers Board of Directors.  He served as Deputy for Michigan from 2016-2023.  From 2018 to 2023 he served as Grand Treasurer General of the Supreme Council.

He holds Honorary Memberships in the Valley of Dayton, the Prince Hall Council of Deliberation in Indiana, the Supreme Council of the Southern Jurisdiction USA and the Supreme Councils of Mexico, Spain, Bolivia, Austria and Canada.  He holds the Medal of Honor from the Supreme Council of France.

Illustrious Brother Walt has served as Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction since August 29, 2023.
